Santa Monica, California-based Upgrade Labs is bringing its high-tech wellness concept to Charlotte.
Upgrade Labs, founded in 2017, announced last week it was adding three centers across the local area in the first half of 2023. That marks the company’s first multiunit development deal. Specific locations have not been disclosed.
Upgrade Labs utilizes biohacking — the use of science and technology to augment people’s bodies to function more efficiently. The fitness concept said it aims to help members reach their highest level of physical, cognitive and cellular performance through its cutting-edge technology.
The expansion was driven by Upgrade Labs’ franchise deal with David Hair, who has a passion for living a healthy lifestyle. Outside of Upgrade Labs, Hair is a naval officer, aviator and longtime biohacker.
“The opportunity to bring Upgrade Labs to Charlotte is something I’m immensely proud to be a part of,” Hair said. “I strive to live a healthy and well-balanced life, and the brand aligns perfectly with this mindset. I cannot wait to open our doors and help communities around Charlotte experience the incredible services and technologies Upgrade Labs provides.”
Upgrade Labs aims to provide improved results in less time than exercising the “old way.” It offers several innovative services such as The Cheat Machine, a motorized resistance and computer software that provides a week’s worth of resistance training in 15 minutes. It also offers The Big Squeeze, a full body lymphatic detox massage that removes excess water, slims the body, expels toxins and boosts the immune system.
“The expansion in Charlotte marks yet another milestone in achieving Upgrade Labs’ growth potential, and reflects our commitment to finding partners that are invested in humankind’s future,” said Dave Asprey, founder and CEO.
Asprey, also known as the “father of biohacking,” founded Bulletproof Coffee in 2011. Bulletproof is a blend of coffee, MCT oil and grass-fed butter that was created to boost energy, reduce appetite and aid in weight loss, among other benefits.
“It’s not fair that only billionaires, celebrities and professional athletes can use technologies to become superhuman. Upgrade Labs is here to bring these possibilities to everyone,” Asprey said. “Like Bulletproof, Upgrade Labs is one more step in my plan to upgrade humanity.”
