A new rumor indicates that Ubisoft Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars title will feature similar gameplay to that of No Man’s Sky.
Insider-Gaming reports that Ubisoft Massive’s Star Wars game will indeed be massive in every sense of the word. From their account of the latest rumors, the upcoming title will be heavily based around exploration of the galaxy far, far away in a player-driven narrative that adapts to the choices that they make, drawing upon an abundance of Star Wars history. Here’s what they had to say:
“In the game, players will be able to jump between systems, immersing themselves in a vast galaxy bursting at the seams with activities. At the heart of the game sits an in-depth, lengthy story, driven by a fully customisable character that walks a path chosen by the gamer… There are decades worth of lore, locations, weapons, and characters for Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment to draw from, so the game itself should be something special.”
At this time, many details about this untitled Star Wars game are not known. It is unclear whether the exploration will be tied specifically to ground-based exploration, or if spacefaring will make up a significant part of this adventure as well. We recently got an indication straight from the developers that new details on the game will be coming at some point this year, with some speculating that recent hires by the company suggest that post-launch monetization practices may be implemented into the game. If the game is indeed as large as the new rumors suggest, it could be quite understandable that Ubisoft Massive is looking to monetize the project in the long run, as there could easily be post-launch DLC expanding this project into other worlds in the Star Wars setting. With that in mind, it seems likely that we are in for a long wait before we actually get to play this.
